Jasper’s Jamaican Planter’s Punch
- 1.5 oz. Dark Rum (I used Appleton Estate 12 yr.)
- 1.5 oz. Jasper’s Secret Mix (pg. 177 of Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails)
Delightful. Spicy. Tart.
Made the Jasper’s Rum Punch, as well (sub Wray & Nephew’s Overproof Rum for the Dark Rum). Haigh is right; totally different drink. Certainly stronger flavor, but also less spicy. And more rum-my.
Rounder? Is that an appropriate description? I think so. It seemed rounder, somehow.
Hoping to develop a larger vocabulary for describing tastes over time. Until then, expect to see “good” or “not very good” a lot. And words like “rounder,” which have no connotation to anyone but me.
EDIT: I’ll happily tell you what’s in the mix, but you’ll have to get the book for the proportions. Or at least go to the bookstore and turn to page 177. It’s fresh lime juice, sugar, bitters, and fresh nutmeg. And it’s delightful.
